The Work and Development Permit (WDP) scheme is a non-financial option to help vulnerable and disadvantaged people pay their fines and address the circumstances that led to them getting the fines in the first place.
This program helps vulnerable Victorians to work off their fine debt by participating in counselling, drug and alcohol treatment and unpaid work under the supervision of accredited sponsors.
To participate in the scheme a person must be engaged with a sponsor and will have or be experiencing:
The scheme has delivered outstanding results for vulnerable Victorians and the wider community.
It helps vulnerable Victorians by reducing fine debt and supporting rehabilitation. Addressing the underlying causes of offending not only helps the individual but contributes to a safer community and more cohesive society.
This project was a finalist in the Department of Justice and Community Safety Secretary’s Awards.
