Actions and example activities
Organisations will implement actions in ways that suit their own context. Example activities provide guidance.
5.1 Organisations monitor cultural capability.
Example activities:
- Organisations use feedback and customer experience surveys to identify gaps in services and opportunities in community service delivery, external policy and programs.
- Organisations assess community feedback on cultural responsiveness through consultations and other feedback processes.
- Organisations include cultural capability assessments in programs, policy design and review where relevant.
5.2 Organisations improve the cultural capability of all employees through training and development.
Example activities:
- Organisations provide training and resources that improve cultural capability.
- Organisations deliver initiatives that build cultural knowledge for managers and executives. This includes opportunities for employees through discussion panels and engagement with staff-led networks as peer educators.
- Organisations contribute to ongoing learning and development by sharing positive practice.
- Organisations align learning opportunities with days of significance to build cultural understanding.
5.3 Organisations apply an intersectional lens to policies and processes, in line with leading practice, to deliver for all Victorians.
Example activities:
- Develop and implement a cultural diversity toolkit. This guides business areas to redesign processes and remove barriers.
5.4 Organisations elevate culturally diverse peoples’ lived experience by providing opportunities to collaboratively advise on policies and projects.
Example activities:
- Organisations establish inclusive co-design panels or diverse lived experience advisory groups.
- Organisations include roles for people with diverse lived experience in project teams or on steering committees. This provides diverse input and challenge at all stages of major initiatives.
