Actions and example activities
Organisations will implement actions in ways that suit their own context. Example activities provide guidance.
3.1 Organisations create and embed safe, inclusive workplace environments, in collaboration with culturally diverse employees.
Example activities:
- Organisations use People matter survey results to improve workplace experiences of culturally diverse employees.
- Organisations partner with tailored Employee Assist Providers that deliver culturally responsive and sensitive services.
- Organisations publish a calendar and information on cultural days and periods of cultural significance. This helps build understanding of employees’ cultural and religious needs.
- Organisations engage staff-led networks to advise, test and inform improvements to internal policy and pre-employment screening.
- Organisations promote the use of existing flexible work policies to enable cultural practice. For example, altered work hours during Ramadan, or alternative public holidays for days of significance such as Orthodox Easter, Passover, Tet and others.
- Organisations review organisational reporting processes. This is to ensure accessibility, anonymity when needed and alignment with the VEOHRC Guideline: Race discrimination in the workplace.
3.2 Executives and managers support, facilitate, and recognise employee engagement in staff-led networks.
Example activities:
- Managers support employees to take part in staff-led networks. This includes allowing time to attend sessions and contribute to activities during work hours.
- Organisations ensure managers can effectively support culturally diverse employees. This includes culturally safe training and guidance as part of broader management training.
