Actions and example activities
Organisations will implement actions in ways that suit their own context. Example activities provide guidance.
1.1 Leaders are accountable for diversity, equity and inclusion in their organisation
Example activities
- The Victorian Secretaries Board releases a statement of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Executive performance plans include a goal to build diversity, equity and inclusion in leadership and the workplace.
- Executives and managers are accountable for actions taken in response to People Matter Survey results. This includes results related to inclusion, discrimination, retention, progression and safety climate.
1.2 Leaders model inclusive behaviours. They consistently build diversity, equity and inclusion into their everyday practice.
Example activities
- Leaders model inclusive behaviours by practising, encouraging and promoting flexible work arrangements. This includes using adjustments, leave and other entitlements, such as parental leave, gender affirmation leave and family violence leave.
- Executives and people managers are required and feel supported to build their capability in inclusive practice and cultural competence.
- Executive Boards build their inclusion capability by working actively with diverse employees and staff-led networks to understand employee experiences and the impacts of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
1.3 Leadership and governance reflect the diversity of the community.
Example activities
- Organisations collaborate with VPSC to:
- Collect baseline data on the diversity of senior leaders
- Develop diversity targets for executive leadership within their organisation
- Report on their progress each year.
- Organisations communicate and commit to diversity, equity and inclusion.
This includes in key governance forums, organisational plans and executive boards.
