The Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner (VLSB+C) are independent statutory authorities responsible for the regulation of the legal profession in Victoria and accountable to the Victorian Parliament. Their role is to maintain professional standards and maintain an impartial and accessible system for managing complaints against legal practitioners.
Recognising the importance of leaders in setting the ethical tone of an organisation, VLSB+C places an emphasis on building effective leadership behaviours through its leadership masterclass series. The series seeks to increase each participant’s individual leadership capability, while creating a cohesive leadership culture and increasing the collective leadership strength of the organisation. This includes values-based leadership behaviours, ensuring a focus on how leaders deliver as well as what they deliver.
Participation is mandatory and leaders are separated into four cohort groups with learning activities tailored to different leadership levels. Leaders participate in an ongoing calendar of learning activities tailored to the needs of their peer group and the required capability levels in the VPS Capability Framework. Participants also co-create learning activities to ensure that they are relevant and tailored to current real world leadership challenges within the organisation.
Focus areas for 2025 included difficult conversations, enhancing emotional intelligence and effective delegation and feedback.
The program aims to foster trust and connection among VLSB+C’s leaders, creating an environment where leaders can discuss integrity-related questions openly and with confidence. The program supports various important cultural dimensions relevant to integrity including honesty, responsibility, respect and fairness.
